Eco-friendly post-destruction recycling with 99% landfill diversion.
NIST Special Publication 800-88 Rev. 1 defines three sanitization categories — Clear, Purge and Destroy. Picking the wrong one wastes drives that could be remarketed, or — worse — leaves data recoverable. Here's how we map them.
Data destruction goes beyond hard drives. Modern data sits on smart cards, biometric devices, IoT firmware, paper archives, ID badges and embedded chips inside everyday hardware. Our scope covers the full spectrum.
Standard spinning disks from desktops, servers, NAS & DAS.
→ Shred / Wipe / DegaussFlash drives needing SSD-specific physical destruction. Hard drive destruction →

→ Bulk ProcessMicrofilm, microfiche and legacy imaging archives.
→ Physical DestroyFingerprint scanners, IoT devices, embedded firmware chips.
→ Chip DestroyWhether it's a single-drive job or a multi-site programme, every TechLabz data destruction engagement is built on the same four pillars — proven, repeatable, audit-ready.
A workflow built around the reality that data destruction is a chain — and it's only as strong as the weakest link in that chain.
Tell us your media types, volumes, data sensitivity classification and timing. We respond within 1 hour on business days with a tailored quote and a destruction matrix matched to your risk profile — Clear, Purge or Destroy per device class.
Every asset is barcoded at the collection point. Serial numbers captured, asset list reconciled to your register, photographic evidence taken where required. The chain of custody starts here — and never breaks.
For off-site destruction: DBS-checked drivers, GPS-tracked vehicles, locked transit cages with tamper-evident seals. For on-site: our mobile destruction unit deploys to your premises with witnessed sign-off available.
Each asset processed against the destruction matrix agreed at scoping. NIST 800-88 Clear, Purge or Destroy applied per device. Verification performed and logged on every device — no batch sign-offs, no aggregated certificates.
Post-destruction, hardware enters our 99% landfill-diversion recycling stream. Material recovery — metals, plastics, rare earth elements — through licensed downstream channels with documented environmental impact reporting.
You receive a Certificate of Destruction per asset (serial-number matched), asset disposition list, WEEE waste transfer note, environmental impact summary and full chain-of-custody log. Audit-ready as standard, not as an upsell.

If you're researching secure data destruction services in the UK, the underlying question is rarely "how do I get rid of these devices?" The real question is: "if the ICO comes calling, can I prove the data on these devices was destroyed to a measurable, evidenced standard?" That standard is what separates secure data destruction from generic disposal — and it's the standard TechLabz is built to deliver.
Our process aligns with NIST 800-88 Rev. 1, NCSC erasure guidance, and the data classification level your IG team has set for each device. We don't apply one method to everything — we match the method to the media and the risk.
Eco-friendly disposal is the second half of the engagement. Once data is verifiably destroyed, hardware enters our 99% landfill-diversion recycling stream — adhering to regulatory guidelines for ethical, green technology practice.
TechLabz operates a four-pillar approach to every secure data destruction engagement. The pillars don't change with project size — what changes is the scale at which they're applied.
Utilising cutting-edge methods, we ensure secure destruction — protecting your data and maintaining compliance with industry regulations, guaranteeing confidentiality and trust at every step of the chain of custody. From the moment a device is barcoded at collection through to the certificate landing in your inbox, every transition is logged.
Our services are tailored to your unique needs, providing customised plans for secure destruction. From on-site data wiping to eco-friendly equipment disposal, we adapt to your sector requirements seamlessly. NHS trusts have different requirements from financial institutions; council IT teams have different requirements from corporate enterprises. We don't apply one template.
Prioritising sustainability, our disposal practices adhere to environmental guidelines. Ethical recycling and green-technology integration underscore our commitment to minimising the environmental impact of IT asset disposal — and we document the outcomes (CO₂-saved, weight-diverted, materials recovered) so you can include them in your sustainability reporting.
TechLabz is your certified partner for secure destruction services. Our adherence to industry standards, certifications and rigorous quality checks ensures reliable, compliant solutions for your IT asset disposal needs. Documentation is comprehensive and audit-ready by default — never an upsell.
NIST Special Publication 800-88 Rev. 1 — "Guidelines for Media Sanitization" — is the framework we anchor our destruction methodology to. The reason is simple: it's the most widely-recognised, internationally-accepted standard for telling you which sanitization method is appropriate for which media at which sensitivity level. Most other standards (including NCSC guidance) reference it.
Single-pass overwrite of user-addressable storage. Resists keyboard recovery (someone with the device booting normally cannot retrieve data) but residual data may be recoverable through laboratory-grade techniques. Appropriate for low-sensitivity data on devices that will be re-used or disposed of within the organisation.
Multi-pass overwrite, cryptographic erase (where the encryption key is destroyed), or — for SSDs — vendor-supplied secure erase commands. Resists laboratory recovery techniques. Appropriate for moderate-to-high sensitivity data, and the standard most often used when devices are being remarketed.
Physical destruction — shredding, crushing, incineration, melting — that renders data recovery infeasible by any known method. The only acceptable choice for the highest-sensitivity data, end-of-life devices, or any media that fails Purge verification. See our dedicated hard drive destruction page for the technical detail on physical methods.
Under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, data destruction matters in two specific scenarios:
In both cases, your evidence is a Certificate of Destruction. "We threw the laptop away" is not a defensible answer to the ICO. "We destroyed asset SN-123456 on date X using NIST 800-88 Purge, witnessed by Y, certified by Z" is.
Our secure data destruction services are used across every UK sector. Healthcare relies on us for patient-data-bearing drive destruction aligned to NHS DSPT — see NHS IT recycling. Local councils use our PSN-compatible processes — see council IT recycling. For end-to-end ITAD that includes destruction, see secure IT disposal; for transit between sites, see secure IT logistics; for commercial-value drives going through remarketing, see IT asset remarketing.
We collect and operate from anywhere in the UK. From our Bolton hub we routinely cover Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Yorkshire, Merseyside, the Midlands, the South East, Wales and Scotland. Multi-site destruction programmes are coordinated as a single project with consolidated reporting.
A generic IT disposal company gets rid of equipment. A specialist secure data destruction partner protects data, generates per-asset Certificates of Destruction reconciled to your register, supports sustainability reporting through documented material recovery, and aligns with the NIST 800-88, NCSC and GDPR frameworks your auditors will reference. Different propositions — and the cost of treating them as the same shows up in ICO enforcement notices, missed compliance certifications and audit findings nobody wants.
